Children's Church

What it is:  Children’s Church is Liturgy of the Word for children from Pre-school/Kindergarten through grade 6.  Children younger than that are welcome if they are able to sit quietly or are accompanied by a parent.  The children are called forward after the Presider’s “Greeting” and process to the daily chapel for the Liturgy of the Word that is at their level of understanding using age appropriate language. They experience the Penitential Rite, Opening Prayer, First and Second Reading, and Responsorial Psalm (all read by children).  The adult team member proclaims the Gospel and offers a reflection on these readings related to their level of understanding.  It concludes with the recitation of the Creed and Prayers of the Faithful.  The children then return to the sanctuary for the Liturgy of the Eucharist and remainder of mass.

Help is needed:  Two adults are necessary for each weekend mass (Saturday at 5:30, Sunday at 8:30 and 10:30).   We need a minimum of Current six (6) adults each week.

Who can help?  Any fully initiated adult who is willing to share their faith with the young people of our parish.

Experience Required?  NONE!  We will train and guide anyone who joins the team.  Since you will be working with children all team members need a Background Check and attend the VIRTUS – “Protecting God’s Children” training. All new members will be paired with an experienced team member as long as necessary.

Time Commitment?   We ask you to facilitate at one mass every 4-6 weeks which requires one or two hours of preparation beforehand.  The more members we have on the team, the less the commitment.
