Divine Mercy Sunday ~ April 11th, 2021

Today I welcome you to this Divine Mercy Sunday and the Second Sunday of Easter! As we continue to celebrate the joy of the resurrection of Jesus, today we reflect on the first gift that he gave to his disciples.

When the doors were locked, their minds too were locked tight to believe the resurrection, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” He said this twice and showed them his hands and his side.
The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord! Jesus calmed their fears and brought them peace when he showed the wounds of his passion, his pierced hands and side. Breathing on them the Holy Spirit, Jesus commissioned his weak and timid apostles as he was also commissioned by his Father to carry the good news to others.

Having the joy of experiencing the risen Lord and receiving the Holy Spirit and commission from him, the disciples, with faith and courage carried out the mission of Jesus.
The mission of the disciples was so powerful and fruit bearing that the number of men and women who came to believe in the Lord increased steadily. They fulfilled the mandate of Jesus with total commitment and enthusiasm accepting all the consequences of sufferings and all they were going to face.

As we celebrate the Divine Mercy Sunday, may we be drawn to the mercy of the Lord everyday in our witnessing the mission of Jesus. Happy Sunday!
