Parish Life

Parish Life

Through our Parish Life Ministries, the Catholic Church of St. Mark seeks to foster and promote a parish community spirit, a friendship and connection that extends beyond our liturgies, by providing and supporting fellowship opportunities in a variety of social environments.

We sponsor and support a number of activities, some of which are listed below:

Receptions and Socials

Ministry volunteers plan, coordinate, set up, and host parish events such as the Confirmation reception, Easter Vigil reception, Lenten Dinners, cultural events, and various community welcomes and farewells. The ministry provides hospitality support to other ministry events such as the Parish Picnic, Parish mission/retreats, Full Community Gatherings, vicariate gatherings, and annual Maison Fortuné Orphanage Yard Sale and Silent Auction.

Volunteers meet monthly on the 1st Wednesday @ 7:30pm in the Conference Room, and as required for special event planning. Help us grow the spirit of community and join us for an event. For more information or to join an upcoming event, please contact Linda Major @ 757-615-0763.

Funeral Receptions

Ministry volunteers provide on-call support to the St. Mark community and its grieving families by coordinating, setting up, and providing hosting and clean-up assistance for fellowship receptions immediately following funerals. There are no monthly commitments; however, volunteers are contacted as needed for parish funeral services. For more information or to join volunteer call list, please contact Jan Kilb at 757-479-1826

Sunday Hospitality

The Sunday Hospitality ministry enhances our Sunday liturgies by hosting the community gathering after each mass. Volunteers serve coffee and doughnuts immediately following each Sunday Mass and your ongoing commitment is usually no more that one Mass person month.

Our volunteer schedules are organized by Sunday Mass. For more information, or to add your name to our volunteer schedule please contact Tony Montemurno 757-467-1989

Our Nursery volunteers provide adult supervision for crawlers to preschoolers during Sunday Masses and other parish events where child care is offered. Volunteers must complete a background check and VIRTUS training. For more information, or to add your name to our volunteer schedule please contact Marlene Games 757-497-3701.

Heavenly Chefs

Our culinary volunteers, on a rotating basis, provide the critical support to our parish receptions by preparing a dish to share or a tray of desserts for parish receptions. Food preparation commitments normally entail nothing more extensive than providing finger foods for a funeral reception or cookies for the Thanksgiving or Christmas food bags. For more information, or to add your name to our volunteer schedule please contact Marlene Games 757-497-3701.

Samaritan Meals

Our Samaritan Volunteers provide meals for fellow parishioners in need of short-term assistance due to illness, pregnancy, or a death in the family. Volunteers prepare meals on a on a rotating basis, normally assisting a fellow parishioner no more frequently that quarterly. For more information, or to have your name added to our volunteer schedule please contact Ann-Marie Cochran at 757-621-0699

Mom’s Group
