Parish Life

The Parish Life Ministry has many life sustaining branches that support the St. Mark Family tree. We nourish and provide community spirit, friendship and a connection that goes beyond our liturgies in a variety of social environments. Parish Life meets on the 1st Wednesday of the month at 7:30 in the Conference Room. Please join us and help this amazing ministry grow and flourish. For more info please contact Linda Major at 757-615-0763.

The Parish Life branches are listed below.

Receptions and Socials

Ministry volunteers plan, coordinate, set up and host parish events such as the Lenten Suppers, Easter Vigil reception, Confirmation reception, Filipino Night, Halloween, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day Raffles, the Ladies’ and Little Ladies’ Tea and various parish gatherings. We provide support to other parish ministries such as the annual picnic, missions and retreats, vicariate gatherings and the annual Maison Fortune Orphanage yard sale. Also included are extraordinary events such as the new bishop’s visit and dinner, and the St. Mark anniversary celebrations.

Funeral Receptions

Ministry volunteers provide as needed support to grieving families by setting up, hosting and cleaning up receptions immediately following a funeral. There is no monthly commitment. Volunteers are contacted as needed for funeral receptions held in the St. Mark Great Hall. For more information, please contact Jan Kilb at 757-479-1826.

Sunday Hospitality

Our Sunday hospitality branch encourages fellowship in the Great Hall after Sunday masses. Volunteers serve coffee and donuts, usually no more than one Sunday a month. This is an ongoing commitment and a great ministry for families! Volunteer schedules are organized by Sunday mass times. Prospective volunteers should contact Tony Montemurno at 757-467-1989.

Nursery

Our Nursery ministry provides adult supervision for crawlers to preschoolers during Sunday masses and occasionally for other parish events. Volunteers must complete a background check and VIRTUS training. For more information, please contact Marlene Games at 757-497-3701.

Heavenly Chefs

Our culinary volunteers provide dishes on a rotating basis for funeral receptions and other parish events. Dishes consist of finger foods for receptions or cookies for the Thanksgiving and Christmas food bag recipients. Prepared food is donated by our volunteers. If you would like to be a part of this “heavenly” group, please contact Marlene Games at 757-497-3701.

Samaritan Meals

Our Good Samaritan chefs provide meals for fellow parishioners in need of short-term assistance, due to illness, injury, pregnancy or a death in the family. Volunteer chefs provide full meals on a rotating basis, usually once or twice a year. Prepared meals are packed in disposable containers and delivered to those in need by the chef. If you would like to make a difference in our parish, or know of someone in need, please contact Linda Major at 757-615-0763.

Helping Hands

Many hands make light work! Volunteers do yard work and light home repair for parishioners in need. We are working to extend our hands to grieving families who need immediate assistance in the home following a death in the family. For more information, please contact Jose Mendoza at 757-721-6012.

Wisdom Seekers

Join the experienced parishioners! All are welcome. Volunteers help organize and plan monthly events such as potlucks, day trips and extended bus trips, speakers, and luncheons at local restaurants. Join this fun group by contacting Sandy Barcsak at 757-963-8598.

Mom’s Group

Our Mom’s Group is comprised of new Moms and veteran Moms who just want to gather for fellowship, light conversation and a snack. Volunteers often provide meals for new moms or for moms dealing with illness or other emergencies. Come join them in the Conference Room each Friday from 9:30-11:00 am. The nursery is open and childcare is provided. Please contact Holly Krukowski at 757-312-8461 (H) or 585-749-6941 (C).
